    The indoor bike is my friend right now, especially in the winter. Saves my knees as well.

    I ditched running 35 years ago and switched to rollerblading/ice skating. With fully protective gear of course, now that I'm in my sixties. Great workout, and tons of fun!

    Started out in boxing, so have been jumping rope for years, used lots of different weighted ropes, speed ropes. Happened to be in Kmart and they had a battle skipping rope, about half the thickness of a battle rope weighing a couple of pound. Should be able to do half my normal time with this??? NO NO NO NO, it's an absolute shagger of a workout 60seconds in and you realize this is going to be a dirty fight.... It won

    My alternative to running is doing the Step Up. Those feel great on my feet, shins and ankles. Hundreds of reps and never feeling sore. Love how they can be added to circuits as well.

      I do row, step up and stationary cycle sessions on some of my cardio days. It is a solid workout that leaves me fresh enough to lift or climb the day after.

    Great suggestions Al. To get around the jarring impact from jumping rope or jogging, I hold two 10-lb hand weights while bouncing on a rebounder. Good for moving the lymph and boosting my heart rate.

    Hey hey hey Al so I skip rope but haven’t in a while, instead I’ve been doing high reps of burpees. Between burpees I do a few push ups and time to time I walk to work. The days I do walk I have a back pack with my office stuff weighing a 17 pounds. I just need to focus on my diet. Great video content as always. 👍🏼

    Hey hey hey Al and all others, first, happy new year to all of you, hope your are doing well.. I disovered Al's channel just few months ago, but I like the content and the attitude a lot, very good advice and not the typical click-bait stuff or endless videos in which the real content can be cpmpressed in a few minutes.. I myself started jumping rope around 6 years ago and it is really great. I started when I wanted to lose weight and it is perfect as Al says. However, I disagree about the "high impact" on jumping, as in fact running is way more impacting your joints, especially if your weight is "not optimal" and you start working out. It is perfect for starters, and yes, after some days/weeks (depends on how fast you are learining skipping the rope) you are used to it, the impact is in fact very low as when you jump, you jump just an inch or two high. It is also great for coordination, mind-body connection, strenghtens heart and has even more benefits.. I also can recommend the "cross rope", which is a weighted rope, weight is in the rope, not in the handles, available in different rope-weights. Not only that a heavier rope makes it easier to get into the jumping, as you have more feeling for the rope spinning and finding the right rythum to jump, it also burns even more calories and, depending on the rope-weight, can also help building muscles and help with posture.
    My workouts when I started where combinations of jumping rope with body weight exercises, it worked very well for losing boidy fat and gaining the strenght you need for further body weight exercises and are a great foundation when you decide starting with weights.. give it a try, the ropes are not cheap, true, but very effecitve and durable, check for "Cross rope", it was worth the money and jumping rope is a great way to start body acitvity, also for experienced ones..     Last year I rediscovered rollerblading. It's fun and definitely uses a lot of your body's balancing muscles.

    I like Squat Thrusts. Would love to jump rope but I think the high impact on my lower back from landing every time would add to my back pain. I also Ruck and even though it's cardio it builds muscle too

    Great video Al. I know it’s just me… but I love when you talk Bodyweight calisthenics…. Love when you talk cardio….. but it doesn’t feel right when you talk weightlifting. PS- loved your response on bridge. A real man admits “ my bad…I messed up”…. True role model brother. Best wishes. BJ
    Side note- except for the newest book, I own EVERYTHING KAVADLO. Anyone not having these treasures in your library are misssing out with at least three s’s in misssing. Lol. And Als workout app is second to none. 💪🏻😉👍🏻

    I love swimming for cardio but it's not user friendly because you need pool, get a lane or possibly sharing a lane and restricted by when they're open. Running is out for me too hard on the knees. Walking is great. I invested in Concept 2 rower and that works for me. Big initial investment but it's a rock solid machine.

    I always imagined Mr Kavadlo would be into burpees, very easy to imagine him with IronWolf and Burpees King.

    Walking is preferable to running for me. You burn about the same amount of calories per unit of distance. Running is more efficient (more distance per unit of time) but walking is less impactful on the knees. I also like burpees for cardio. I consider them pretty much a cardio exercise.

      If this is true, marathon runners can just walk ( it will take more time ) and be ready for a marathon. That's not how it works haha

    thanks for posting ... 67 years old I go to a local park with lots of step 215 exactly takes me about 35 -40 min to get around them all the park is about 5 city block long along the Ohio river

    Like other comments below, I respectfully disagree with rope jumping being a high impact exercise. If you're jumping on both feet and barely leave the ground (i.e., less than an inch in the air), it's much lower impact than running. +1 for swimming; it's great for the spine, too. If you live in a block of flats, walking or running up stairs is an excellent workout, too -- again, low impact, but high intensity if you run or carry a weight.

    Can you suggest some options for times when jumping rope isn’t an option and it’s cold, dark, and the streets are covered in ice? What do you think of running in place?

      hi chris,
      look into a mini trampoline. I used to live in MN so I know where your coming from. I have a Bellicon Mini trampoline which has bungee straps but also owned the Cellersizer which has springs. A good cardio workout is to do bounce sprint intervals bounce one minute sprint for 20 seconds 4-5 rounds, it's like HIT training so you don't need to do so many rounds. I like my bellicon, it's super quiet, but I kind of liked the cellersizer more for that type of activity (sprinting). There are other models out there of good quality just never want to go cheap with a mini trampoline. tons of other benefits from bouncing every day which you can research. Hope that helps

      Yeah why not? This was mentioned in the comments of one of the jump rope dudes you tube videos. I hurt my ankle running and cannot do an cardio at the moment.

    Isn't jumping rope one of the lowest impact exercises compared to other land based cardio conditioning?

      right, it is.. way less impact than running for example, which will stress your joints more, especially if you start and you weight too much (and your body/joints are not used to this stress)..
